The Commotion

2013 - 2021

I started this project in 2013, as a way of trying to externalize the conflicting relationship I had to a version of masculinity that I’d come to see as ubiquitous. To me, it felt impossible to avoid manifestations of this idea of what it is to be a man. It also felt that even by rejecting these ideas, I was still engaging with them, and as a result, giving them credence. I wanted to give form to the tension I felt, and to recognize it as something that both is and isn’t there.
