I’ve kept a photo diary for over twenty years. These images often influence the rest of my work, and will sometimes show up in other projects. At times, I struggle with the relevance of this work—do these photographs matter? As a result, I have in the past tried to make these photographs into something other than what they are, in order to try to remove any sense of frivolity. This always feels hollow and false. I have also, at times, resisted calling this collection of images a diary, for reasons that are likely gendered. I have at last come to see these photographs as no more or no less than what they are—the result of a life of looking. 2024
